John and his wife Mrs. Joan Nutter started up the business known as Nutter Rod and Reel back in 1992 in their 12 x 24 room in their garage. For those of you that have been around the area for a while you will remember their shop that was attached to their house just off the beaten path of in White, GA on Hwy 411 which is your way to Carters Lake. Since 2003, they have built a beautiful new shop which is now located right on Hwy 411 now and still in White, Georgia.
Also upstairs if your into old old old fishing lures and reels. John has a very nice collection of old antique fishing lures and reels. Very cool to see how far alot of our equipment has progressed and also very cool to see a part of fishing history. The one thing that I was intrigued by was Joan's cousin is famed Pro Fisherman Steve Daniels who is re knowned Jerkbait finatic like myself. John builds all of Steve's jerkbait rods and the thing that is very unique about Steve's jerkbait rods is the tip is weighted which imparts a different action into the bait along with a few other advantages. This rod received world wide attention and was featured in Bassmasters back in 2004 and also In Fisherman in 2003. Without going into much detail here is an article written by Steve Daniels explaining the unique features of the rod Steve Daniels Jerkbait Rod Article
During my visits to Nutter Rod and Reel there hasn't been one time when I have visited them that I haven't spent 3 hrs talking to them about odds and ends. John has been in the fishing industry for quite a while as he used to work for Eagle Claw before opening up his shop and it's always awesome to be able to talk to someone not only about fishing and fishing trends but also about the industry as a whole. John carries a wide array of Zoom, Yamamoto, Fish Head Spin, Crankbaits, spinnerbaits, swimbaits, Lucky Craft and also has alot of used reels for sale. The one thing that is unique to Johns shop is they will be one of three local dealers for the Hampton Shad swimbait which is coming out soon. John also has an exclusive Chartreuse Shad bandit crankbaits as well as a variety of Nutter shad colors in Norman crankbait. They also have a ton of crappie and bream stuff as well
One other cool thing about Nutter Rod and Reel is that they host the one ONE FISH WONDER tournament every Tuesday night out of the Stamp Creek launch. This is probably one of the best things to happen to tournament fishing in the summer in regaurds to the stress that alot of our bigger fish receive in the hotter months of the year. The name is self explanatory your fishing for big fish and also smallest fish to win the derby. To my knowledge they are limited to 50 boats for these events and are full on most occasions.
